LACQUERED BRASS MONOCULAR MICROSCOPE

FR-482. French, 4th quarter 19th century, signed on the base "NACHET, 17, Rue St. Severin, Paris." Made of bright lacquered brass and standing 11" high (min), extending to 12" with rack & pinion coarse focussing , with 3 1/4" wide x 4 1/8" deep horseshoe base, and fine focus knob on top of the pivoted rear column. A 1 1/4" diameter double-sided gimbaled mirror is mounted on an articulated arm below the 3 1/8" wide x 2 2/4" deep stage, with a condenser insert in the swing-out substage assembly, and a 1 5/8" diameter bully's eye condensing lens on an articulated arm that mounts on the front of the body tube in a dovetail slot. The original accessories include 3 objectives in a signed black leather covered box, 2 eyepieces, and 5 condenser inserts. The microscope is in very good overall condition, with virtually all of its original lacquer finish. The original 12" x 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" fitted mahogany case is also in very good overall condition.
