TOP-MOUNTED CARY-TYPE COMPOUND MICROSCOPE

UK-016. English, 1st quarter 19th century, signed on the column "J.P. CUTTS & SONS, OPTICIANS TO HER MAJESTY, SHEFFIELD." Made of polished lacquered brass and standing 12 1/2" tall overall, when screwed into the brass fitting in the top of the 7 1/2" x 5 3/8" x 2 1/4" fitted mahogany case. The 5" long microscope tube screws into the bar limb and takes from 1 to 4 of the original screw-together objectives. The stage focuses by pinion drive on a rack cut along the back on the fixed vertical column; the substage mirror is 1 5/8" diameter. The original accessories include 4 screw-together objectives, stage-mounted bull's eye condensing lens, stage forceps, brass live box, brass tweezers, glass & ivory stage disks, and one ivory slider. The microscope is in very good overall condition, with much of its original lacquer finish, in its original fitted mahogany case.
