JONES IMPROVED-TYPE COMPOUND MICROSCOPE IN PYRAMID MAHOGANY CASE by R.BATE
UK-174. English, early 1st quarter 19th century, signed in script on the base "Bate, London" and with a full trade label in the door for "R.B. Bate, Mathematical Instrument Maker, Wholesale, Retail & for Exportation., No. 17, POULTRY, LONDON." Made of lacquered brass and standing 18 1/2" tall on its 6 3/4" square mahogany base. It has a 1 7/8" diameter double-sided mirror, adjustable on the square rear column. The stage focuses by pinion drive on a rack cut into the front of the column. The original accessories include 6 numbered objectives, frog plate, brass slider, live box, aperture cone, stage forceps, glass stage plates, 11 ivory sliders, and ivory talc box - all in the drawer in the microscope base. The microscope and its accessories are all in very good overall condition, with most of their original lacquer finish. The original 8 1/4" square x 20 1/2" high mahogany pyramid case is also in very good overall condition.
