LACQUERED BRASS MONOCULAR MICROSCOPE
BY
DANCER

UK-632. English, late 2nd quarter 19th century, signed in script on the base "J.B. Dancer, Optician, Manchester," and not serial numbered. Made of polished lacquered brass and standing 14 5/8" high (min), extending to 19 1/2" by rack & pinion coarse focussing, with fine focussing by a knurled wheel on the bottom of the body tube. The foot is a large Y-shaped flat tripod with 2 columns supporting the limb on trunions; the unusual mechanical stage is operated from the back corners; and the double-sided mirror is 1 7/8" diameter. The original accessories include 4 eyepieces, 4 objectives (with non-RMS male threads - 1/4", 4/10", 3/4" & 2") in brass canisters, substage polarizer & eyepiece cap analyzer, parabolic darkfield condenser, inverting lens, stage forceps, live box, tweezers, and a bulls-eye condensing lens on a lacquered brass stand. This impressive microscope is in very good overall condition, with virtually all of its original lacquer finish (showing vertical streaking on the body tube and wear on the base). The original 9 7/8" x 8 1/2" x 16 1/2" fitted mahogany case is also in very good overall condition.
