DANCER

UK-728. English, late 2nd quarter 19th century, signed in script on the base "J.B. Dancer, Optician, Manchester," and not serial numbered. Made of polished lacquered brass and standing 14 5/8" high (min), extending to 19 1/2" by rack & pinion coarse focussing, with fine focussing by a knurled wheel on the bottom of the body tube. The foot is a large Y-shaped flat tripod with 2 columns supporting the limb on trunions; the unusual mechanical stage is operated from the back corners; and the double-sided mirror is 2" diameter. The original accessories include 3 eyepieces, 3 objectives (1/2" with non-RMS male threads and 1/4" & 1" with RMS threads) in brass canisters, RMS adapter, substage polarizer & body tube analyzer, darkfield condenser, stage forceps, 2 live boxes, tweezers, and a bulls-eye condensing lens on a lacquered brass stand. This impressive microscope is in very good overall condition, with virtually all of its original lacquer finish (showing very little wear). The original 9 1/2" x 8 1/4" x 16 1/4" fitted mahogany case is also in very good overall condition.
