01-007. French, early 3rd quarter 19th century, signed on the bar "NACHET Opticien, Rue Serpente, 16, Paris." Made of bright polished lacquered brass and standing 9 1/4" high (min), extending to nearly 13" by draw tube focussing, with a 3 1/8" diameter heavy base, a 1" diameter single-sided substage mirror, and a 1 1/4" diameter condensing lens mounted on an articulated arm with a sleeve that fits over the body tube support. The oxidized brass stage is 3 1/8" wide x 2 1/2" deep, with a 4-aperture diaphragm mounted underneath. The original optics consists of 2 compound eyepieces and 3 button objectives. The microscope is in very good overall condition, with most of its original lacquer finish. The original 10 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 4" hand dovetailed fitted mahogany case is also in very good overall condition. This simple drum microscope was offered in the 1856 and 1863 Nachet catalogs, but not in the 1872 or later catalogs.
