MICROSCOPE SLIDE COVER GLASS GAUGE by BAUSCH & LOMB
01-026. American, early 1st quarter 20th century, signed on the paper scale "BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO., Rochester, N.Y. & New York City", and described in their 1900 "Microscopes and Accessories" catalog as follows: "This instrument should be found on the work table of everyone possessing a microscope. With it the thickness of cover glass is quickly and accurately determined. Measurements are made by placing the cover glass between the stop and micrometer screw and bringing the screw in contact with the glass. The thickness is read off in thousandths of a millimeter. Scales are proveded showing the exact tube length required for covers of different thickness to compensate for variation from standard thickness." Made of black enameled cast iron, with 2 7/8" diameter base, and standing 3 1/8" tall overall. This attractive small cover glass gauge is in very good overall condition, with minor chipping to the edges of the paper scale on the drum.
