ARMILLARY SPHERE & PLANETARY MODEL by ARRIGHINI ANGELO
03-007. Italian, circa 1900, signed on a metal plate on the base" ARRIGHINI ANGELO, COSTRUTTORE, MILANO." A decorative turned ebonized wood stand, with 10 1/2" diameter base and 8" tall turned wood column, supports this 15" diameter armillary sphere & planetary model, 28 1/2" tall overall. The two vertical circles are made of painted 3/8" wide steel bands; the five horizontal circles are all made of painted 5/32" diameter steel rods. A 1 1/8" wide band of sheet brass is mounted to the vertical rings at a 23 1/2 degree angle to the horizontal rings; this band holds a paper scale marked in degrees, 0 - 90 in quadrants. A 3 1/8" diameter ball, representing the sun, and the 8 planet solar system model are all made of unlacquered brass and are mounted on the polar axis rod . This attractive classroom demonstration armillary sphere & planetary model is in very good overall condition.
