7" CELESTIAL GLOBE ON ADJUSTABLE STAND by ERNST SCHOTT & Co.
03-017. Germany, 1st quarter 20th century, signed "ERNST SCHOTT & Co., BERLIN." A 14" x 10" mahogany base supports this 7" diameter celestial globe that is mounted to a simple gear assembly on an adjustable incline. A brass ring that fits around the globe and is kept in place by brass pins in the globe is also attached to the gear assembly. The purpose of the gear assembly is not clear and may not be complete. Two 4 3/4" tall mahogany pillars are mounted at either end of the incline, with a 10" diameter x 1 1/4" wide brass ring mounted between them. The globe is in good overall condition, showing wear where the ring has rubbed and some of the brass pins are missing; the mahogany base assembly is in very good condition. This is a very unusual celestial globe apparatus and we have not seen anything like it in any of our reference books or auction catalogs.
