18th CENTURY ITALIAN SAND-GLASS
04-004. English, 2nd half 18th century, signed in script on the pasteboard case "Benedetto Colli." The
double glass ampoule is fused at the center with a brass diaphragm. The joint is cemented with wax
or putty, covered with cloth and bound with copper covered twine. The glass is contained in a
stained wood and ivory case with a cutaway front, 4 5/8" high x 1 3/4" diameter. This attractive
early sand-glass is in very good overall condition, with its original cream sand filling - duration:
7 1/4 minutes. The original 5 3/8" long x 2 1/8" diameter paper covered pasteboard case is also in
very good overall condition.
