IVORY COMPASS DIAL & THERMOMETER COMPENDIUM by G. GALLO SOHN
04-012. German, early 1st quarter 19th century, signed on the base "G. GALLO SOHN, FRANKFURT O.M." The 3 5/16" diameter x 3/32" thick ivory base has decorative cut work around the edge, a 2 7/16" diameter thermometer graduated in FAHRT (-5° to 133° Fahrenheit) and REAUR (-14° to 43° Reaumur), and in the center a 1 1/4" diameter compass sundial is mounted in a decorative ivory frame and covered with a domed glass top. This beautiful compendium is in fine overall condition (one small vertical split in the ivory sundial frame), and comes in its original plush & silk lined 4 1/8" diameter leather covered turned wood case (leather partially missing on top).
