6 1/2" RADIUS 3-CIRCLES FRAME SEXTANT by H. HUGHES & SON
05-002. English, early 1st quarter 20th century, signed below the silver scale "H. Hughes & Son Ltd. 59
Fenchurch St. London E.C." Very rigid 3-circles frame, with black oxidized finish, 6 1/2" radius
silver arc graduated from -5 to 155 degrees with readout by vernier to 10 arcsec, swing-away
magnifier, tangent screw control, 4 square index mirror glass filters, 3 round horizon mirror glass
filters and ebonized wood handle. Also included in the case are 2 short star telescopic eyepieces,
a long telescopic eyepiece, a peepsight eyepiece, 2 solar eyepiece filters, and an adjusting tool.
The sextant is in very good overall condition, with virtually all of its original finish and only a
little evidence of normal oxidation. The original 10 3/8" x 9 3/4" x 5 1/2" fitted mahogany case is
also in very good overall condition.
