SMALL LATTICE FRAME SEXTANT by ADAMS LONDON
05-008. English, late 4th quarter 18th century, signed in script on the brass arc "Adams London." Lacquered brass lattice frame, 5 1/8" in radius, graduated from -5 to 160° on the brass arc, with readout by a silver vernier on the inset silver arc, swing-away magnifier, tangent screw control, 4 square index mirror glass filters, 3 round horizon glass filter, 1 long telescopic eyepiece, 1 short telescopic eyepiece, 1 peepsight eyepiece, and 1 solar eyepiece filter. This unusually small sextant, by George Adams, Jr. - one of the late 18th century's most famous instrument makers, is in very good overall condition, in its original hand dovetailed keystone shaped mahogany case.
