ENGLISH MINE SURVEYOR'S VERNIER DIAL by A. ABRAHAM
06-015. English, early 3rd quarter 19th century, signed in script on the silvered dial "A. Abraham,
Liverpool." Made of very heavy black oxidized brass, this well made compass has a silvered dial
with 4 1/8" long needle in its 5 7/8" diameter housing on a 12 3/4" long base plate, with a tangent
screw to rotate the compass face against a vernier inside the compass, a lever actuated needle
lifter, crossed bubble levels, and two 5 7/8" high folding sight vanes. The compass is in very good
overall condition, with most of its original black oxidized finish. The original 14" x 7 3/4" deep
x 4" high hand dovetailed, dark stained mahogany case is very worn, but is still in good useable
condition.
