06-043. American, mid 19th century, unsigned. The original 5" x 2 5/8" x 7/8" red painted hinged tin carrying case has a gold wreath and a gold eagle painted on the top; the interior is painted green and has a hinged compartment for the 2 weights (1 troy ounce & 1/2 troy ounce). The brass beam is 4 5/8" long overall, with 2 1/8" diameter brass pans suspended by the original green cords. This attractive hand balance is in very good overall condition; the tin case is also in very good overall condition, including the hinges, noting expected wear to the paint.
