1-CIRCLE OPTICAL GONIOMETER by UNICAM INSTRUMENTS
07-001. English, mid 2nd quarter 20th century, signed on a nameplate "UNICAM INSTRUMENTS CAMBRIDGE No.
3028 ENGLAND." Made of gray lacquered cast metal, with polished nickel silver fittings, and
standing 11 3/4" high overall on its 3-legged base. Using the vernier and slow motion tangent
screws, angles can be measured to 1 arcmin on the graduated scale around the 5 7/8" diameter table.
The crystal is mounted on a compound head in the center of the table, which is adjustable in the X,
Y, and Z directions, as well as tiltable around two axes, and rotatable around the third. The 5
7/8" long collimator is mounted atop one leg of the base, with an electric light bulb inside; the 7
1/8" long sighting telescope is moveable around the table. Adjustments critical to the actual
measurements are made using 2 tangent screws below the table. This late model goniometer is still
in very good useable condition.
