07-024A. MAHOGANY CASED POCKET DIAMOND SCALE BY YOUNG & SON
English, 4th quarter 19th century, with trade label in the lid for "YOUNG & SON. 46 CRANBOURNE STREET & 5 BEAR STREET, LEICESTER SQUre, W.C." The 5 5/8" x 2 3/4" x 1 1/8" fitted mahogany case has a push-button latch and holds the hand scale and the weights. The scale has a 4 7/8" long steel beam and the brass balance cups are 1 1/2" diameter. Inside a small hinged compartment is the original set of weights and the original brass tweezers slide into a slot in the end of the case. The case and its contents are in very good overall condition.
English, early 3rd quarter 19th century, unsigned. The 5 1/4" x 2 5/8" x 1" fitted mahogany case has a push-button latch and holds the hand scale and the weights. The scale has a 4 1/4" long steel beam and the brass balance cups are 1 7/32" diameter. Inside a small hinged compartment is a complete, but mixed set of weights; the tweezers that would slide into a slot in the end of the case are not present. The case and its contents are in very good overall condition.
