S07-002. German, early 4th quarter 19th century, unsigned, but likely by August Lingke. The 11 5/8" x 7 1/2" x 4" felt lined polished mahogany case has a removable wood tray fitted for 21 individual pieces. An exceptional example of August Lingke's fine large blowpipe sets that is complete with over 50 individual pieces, all in mint unused condition.
See U. Burchard's article "The History and Apparatus of Blowpipe Analysis" in "The Mineralogical Record," Volume 24, Number Four (July-August 1994) for an extensive discussion of blowpipe sets, their contents, and makers - Figure 24 on page 272 shows a similar, but larger Lingke set.
