TOP TRAY FROM A FREIBERG BLOWPIPE SET by AUGUST LINGKE
S07-003. German, 4th quarter 19th century, unsigned, but likely by August Lingke. The 12 7/8" x 8" x 1 1/2" felt lined polished mahogany tray contains 31 (of 33) original pieces. The tray and its contents are all in fine overall condition, missing only the loupe and a bone spoon.
See U. Burchard's article "The History and Apparatus of Blowpipe Analysis" in "The Mineralogical Record," Volume 24, Number Four (July-August 1994) for an extensive discussion of blowpipe sets, their contents, and makers - Figure 24 on page 272 shows a similar tray of utensils in a Lingke set.
