VERY LARGE INDUCTION COIL (4"-6" SPARK) by NEWTON & CO.
10-018. English, 4th quarter 20th century, signed on an ivory trade label "Made by NEWTON & Co., Optician to the Queen, 3, Fleet St., London, No. 751N." The 6 3/8" diameter x 14 3/8" long induction coil is mounted between phenolic end pieces on a 25" x 11 3/4" x 4" polished mahogany base. Two stand-off phenolic insulators are mounted in front of the coil to hold the spark gap electrodes; the vibrator, ivory reversing switch, and battery connectors are all mounted at one end of the coil. This very large induction coil is in good working condition and will produce a 4"-6" spark with a 12 volt DC input (due to internal insulation breakdown, some sparking occurs around the terminals on top of the coil during use).
