VERTICAL NEEDLE TELEGRAPH DEMONSTRATION SET by NEWTON & CO.
10-029. English, early 4th quarter 19th century, with a full trade label in the case for "NEWTON & CO." Each of the telegraph sets has a 9" x 5" x 1 1/4" mahogany base, mounted with the 9" tall vertical needle assembly with its pair of coils on the back side, the bell & ringer, a crank-handled switch, and 6 lacquered brass terminals. Each of the telegraph sets is in good display condition, showing wear from use; however, they have not been tested electrically. The original black painted wood case is also in good overall condition. Early classroom demonstration sets such as this are extremely uncommon; this is the first set we have ever seen for sale.
