S10-073. English, 4th quarter 19th century, unsigned. The black lacquered brass sphere is 1/8" diameter, with a 9" long x 3/4" diameter lacquered brass pump and T-handled plunger screwed into it. There are also five 1/4" diameter fittings arranged symmetrically around a minor circle on the sphere. Originally, the fittings had glass nozzles cemented in; these have now been replaced with plastic. When the sphere is filled with water and the plunger is pushed in, the water will squirt out equal distance from each nozzle, demonstrating the equality of the water pressure in all directions inside the sphere. This interesting demonstration apparatus is in good overall condition, except for spotting of the lacquer finish.
