SPANISH NESTED CUP-WEIGHT SET
MADE IN NUREMBERG

12-005. Germany, 3rd quarter 19th century, with three stamps on the top: a shield with two crossed flags, a wreath in the middle, and a capital S on top; a large capital S (made in Nuremberg for use in Spain); and a large 4 (Castile pounds). Made of darkened brass, with roped decoration around the house and the lid with a single arm and plain handle, 3 3/8" diameter x 4 1/4" to the top of the handle. The set is complete with 10 cup weights nested in the house - total weight 1847 grams, broken down and stamped in the bottom 2 libra, 1 libra, 8 onza, 4 onza, 2 onza, 1 onza, 1/2 onza, and unstamped 1/4 onza, 1/8 onza, 1/16 onza and 1/16 onza. This fine large nested cup-weight set is very good overall condition. See page 55 in Gerard M.M. Houben's "200 Years of Nested Cup-Weights" for a photo of the maker's mark on this set, identification of the masters who used it (A.P. Sturm and J.G. Brunner), and dates of use (1858 to 1876).
