EDUCA MULTIPLE-VIEW STEREOVIEWER by MATTEY
16-009. French, 1st quarter 20th century, manufactured by Mattey, with metal trade label "EDUCA, APPAREIL ET PROCEDE." Made of light mahogany, 10 3/8" x 7 7/8" x 18", and designed around the use of 6" x 8" glass plates containing 12 interleaved stereo pairs. A plate is inserted in a holder through a slot in the top of the machine, and a lever on the right is used to elevate the holder to bring each of the six levels into view. The box-type double rack & pinion focusing viewer slides horizontally to view the two stereo pairs at each level. The lower storage compartment contains a set of 42 plates (504 views of scenes throughout France). This attractive Educa Multiple-View Stereoviewer is in very good overall condition and comes with a full set of 42 plates. See page 204 in Paul Wing's "Stereoscopes - The First One Hundred Years" for a photos and a discussion of Mattey's Educa machines.
