LACQUERED BRASS KALEIDOSCOPE ON TABLE STAND by A. PICHLER
16-015. Austrian, early 1st quarter 20th century, with a trade label on the base for "A. PICHLER Wwe & SOHN, LEHRMITTELANSTALT, WIEN." Made of polished lacquered brass and standing 10 1/2" high overall on its original black painted turned wood base. The kaleidoscope is 8" long overall x 4 1/8" diameter at its bottom and 1 3/4" diameter at its eyepiece. The object case has a threaded end cap that allows the contents to be changed. The unusual kaleidoscope shows minor wear externally, but is still in very good working condition, with all original glass and internal mirrors. A. Pichler was a major supplier of a wide range of physical science demonstration apparatus in Vienna, like Max Kohl in Cheminitz and E. Leybold in Cologne.
