ENGLISH COUNTY COUNCIL 7lb BALANCE by AVERY DE GRAVE
19-014. English, 2nd quarter 20th century, stamped "AVERY DE GRAVE, LONDON, ENGLAND" and "COUNTY BOROUGH OF WARLEY, TO WEIGH 7 lb," and serial numbered 7322 on all parts. Made of polished aluminum, the beam is 13 1/8" long overall x 1/4" thick, with steel knife-edge bearings at both ends and in the center. The aluminum balance support is 13/16" diameter x 13" tall and slides out of the case on a wood base for use. A pair of 5 1/4" aluminum balance pans can be hung below the beam from chains; there is also a second pair of pans in the case - one a heavy circular pan on chains and the other a rectangular dish that can be hung below the beam on a rigid aluminum frame; and there is also an aluminum funnel in the case for pouring material into the rectangular dish. The balance is in very good overall condition. The original 16" x 17 1/2" x 7 3/4" fitted mahogany case is also in very good overall condition, with a repaired crack in the top. A very attractive English county council 7 lb beam balance in its original case.
