"EDNEY" SWING HYGROMETER
by
PASTORELLI & RAPKIN Ltd

19-017. English, 2nd quarter 20th century, signed on the end of the frame "PASTORELLI & RAPKIN Ltd, 46 HATTON GARDEN, LONDON" and '"EDNEY" SWING HYGROMETER' in the center of the frame. Two mercury thermometers, so arranged that the wet-bulb projects farther than the dry bulb, are attached to the 8" long oxidized brass frame. The frame is joined by a hinge to a phenolic swinging handle. This sling psychrometer is in fine overall condition, in its original 9" x 2 1/8" x 1" fitted mahogany case. See figure 63 on page 67 of W.E. Knowles Middleton's "Catalog of Meteorological Instruments in the Museum of History and Technology" for a photo and description of a similar instrument, which is said to have been used by Richard E. Byrd, USN during his flight to the North Pole, 9 May 1926.
