Dear Readers, after a few months I finally had some time to put an update online to the website dedicated to the history of the German Scientific Microscope. There are some very fine instruments I could purchase in Summer/Autumn 2007 that are on display now. In particular I would like to invite you so have a look at the recent additions of antique microscopes by Carl Zeiss: 1) a simple microscope stand by Zeiss that was made in 1847 to 1848 as it has a dove-tail mounting on the wooden box, a feature not offered any more after 1849. Only one other remaining instrument is known in the collection of the Optical Museum of the Ernst-Abbe-Stiftung in Jena (although their example is not shown to the public at the moment) 2) the 45th made „new preparation stand“ by Zeiss made in 1870 3) a travel microscope of 1876, all complete with its special preparation system 4) a typical stand Va of 1885, equipped with the rare small objective revolver 5) the „Universal Microsco Whoever is interested in the history of these microscopes, please take some time and enjoy the photos and discussions on www.musoptin.com (link included below) As always there will be further updates to the website in future – and I am most happy to receive your comments.
