FULLER'S CALCULATING SLIDE RULE #813 by W.F. STANLEY
S09-009. English, circa 1886, signed "STANLEY, Maker, LONDON" and serial numbered 813 on the cursor - with fixed mahogany handle (no hole), no date under the serial number, original dovetailed mahogany box with "Calculator" stenciled in black on the top, and original 11 page instuction booklet dated 1879. This is one of the earliest surviving Fuller's Calculating Slides Rules - only 6 are known with serial numbers under 813. This rare early Fuller's Calculating Slide Rule is in surprisingly very good overall condition - the inner cylinder is moderately toned; the outer cylinder is lightly toned; but the scales are all clean and unscratched. The original mahogany box top is cracked, but the box is complete and and the interior is clean, with the original "W. F. Stanley & Co. Limited" trade label in the top. The original 1879 instruction booklet is complete and fully readable, but is worn and foxed throughout.
The Fuller's Spiral Slide Rule consists of a hollow cylinder, 6 1/4" long x 3 1/4" diameter, which can be moved up or down or around an inner cylinder, 12" long x 2 1/2" diameter, provided with a handle. A single logarithmic scale nearly 42' long is wound spirally around the outer cylinder to enable calculations to 4 or 5 place accuracy. The inner cylinder of the Model No. 1 contains many useful tables and various data.
