FERGUSSON'S MECHANICAL POWERS COMBINED by W & S JONES
S10-086. English, ca 1800, signed "W&S JONES, 30 Holborn London". Made of polished lacquered brass and standing 24" high when fully assembled. The three-screw leveling base is lead-weighted and carries the pillar to which the gearbox is attached. A steel worm gear drives, by toothed gear, the axle and large pulley; a quick release lever disconnects this drive gear. The worm gear shaft carries a 12" long balance arm with 12 weight support pins. Two double pulleys and weights can be hung below the gear box to load the axle, wheel, and balance arm. The apparatus is complete, with all original components and accessories, and everything is in superb condition, as is the original fitted mahogany case, 20 1/2" x 8" x 5".
