6 7/8" GOLD RUSH MINER'S HAND BALANCE IN VELVET-LINED CASE

06-066. American, mid 19th century, unsigned. The original 6 7/8" x 3 1/4" x 1 1/8" black painted hinged cloth covered case has a gold eagle painted on the top; the interior is plush lined and has a compartment for the 5 weights (10, 6, 5, 3 & 2). The brass beam is 5 3/4" long overall, with 2 5/16" diameter brass pans suspended by the original green strings. This attractive hand balance is in very good overall condition; the case is also in very good overall condition.
